Donald F. Confer, 73, a retired chief of security at Guterl Steel Co. who had served 26 years on the Starpoint Central School Board of Education, died Monday (Nov. 23, 1998) in his home.
A native of Eaglesmere, Pa., he had worked for 27 years at the steel plant before his retirement as security chief in 1983. He also had a grain and livestock farm.
A 50-year member of First English Lutheran Church, he served as president of the Starpoint School Board for two terms during his 26-year tenure.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, the former Betty J. Bell; a son, Mark A.; a daughter, Karen Sherwood; a brother, Raymond; and a grandson.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Lange Funeral Home, 186 East Ave. Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.
