Rep.-elect Tom Reynolds has restored my faith in politicians. After following the story of his pension upgrade in The News, I initially contacted him to express my concern. After speaking with his office, though, I was satisfied that he had earned a Tier 1 pension and, as Gov. Pataki said on one of the morning talk shows, it was "much ado about nothing."
Imagine my surprise when I picked up The News and read that Reynolds, although he had proven his case, was not going to take the upgrade he had earned and deserved. He said that his character and integrity are more important than anything, and that he wanted to remove any doubt in people's minds. Not only did he remove any doubt, he showed us all something: That character does matter.
