FOUR DIE IN CRASHES ON AREA ROADS OVER WEEKEND

Four persons were killed in separate crashes in Allegany County and Warren County, Pa., over the weekend.

A Woodbury, N.J., woman was fatally injured when she lost control of her van while driving west on the Southern Tier Expressway near Friendship at 6:15 a.m. Sunday.

Sally J. Ethier, 55, was pronounced dead on arrival at Olean General Hospital.

State police at Wellsville said the van crashed west of the Friendship exit. Friendship rescue and ambulance volunteers extricated the victim from the wreckage.

Near Bolivar, a Wellsville man was killed Saturday night when his car went out of control along South Bolivar Road and flipped.

State police at Wellsville said Joel Geffers, 44, was southbound on County Route 33, southeast of Bolivar, at 11 p.m. when his car veered off the the road, hit an embankment and flipped. Geffers was pronounced dead at 12:23 a.m. Sunday in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville.

Pennsylvania State Police at Warren blamed slippery road conditions on Route 62 in Pine Grove Township for a crash Saturday afternoon that fatally injured Patricia Carlson, 54, of Hunter Street in Warren.

Mrs. Carlson's southbound car slid out of control and into the path of a tractor-trailer driven by Joseph Pollaro, 36, of Dunkirk. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Pollaro suffered minor injuries. Troopers said both drivers were wearing seat belts.

David McConnell, 39, of Girard, Pa., was killed about 4 a.m. Saturday on Route 426 in Spring Creek Township. Troopers said he was eastbound when his car left the road and slammed into a tree and rolled. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
