A Cleveland Avenue man was hospitalized early Saturday after being shot twice in the calf with a handgun, Detective Capt. Louis F. Curcione said.
Joachim S. Sylvester, 23, was listed in satisfactory condition in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center with two wounds to the leg and a shattered leg bone, a hospital official said.
The shooting occurred at about 2 a.m., when Sylvester got out of a car in the 1800 block of Niagara Avenue to speak with another man he saw walking there. The two began to talk, walked between some homes and started to argue, Curcione said.
The assailant apparently pulled out a gun and fired four or five shots, two of them striking Sylvester in the calf, Officer Christopher Calvano said. The shooter then fled, and Sylvester hobbled back to the car, and a friend and cousin took him to the hospital, Calvano said.
