Hamburg lawyer Kevin Gaughan's efforts at fostering regionalism in Western New York get another push today with the opening ceremony for what will be a series of interreligious, city-suburban exchanges that will start next year.
The two-hour event, scheduled to begin with an outdoor procession at 4:30 p.m., will take place at Canisius College's Koessler Athletic Center, Main Street and East Delavan Avenue.
It will feature a number of speakers and performances by 10,000 Maniacs, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Olmsted School 56 Chorus.
Gaughan helped to organize the five-day Chautauqua Conference on Regionalism last year.
He says he hopes the Region-Wide Conversation, which will begin in February, will bring together as many as 120 religious congregations.
Today's kickoff, which has the support of dozens of religious leaders and congregations, is free and open to everyone. Free parking is available.
