John E. "Jack" Lebans, 60, who had worked for the U.S. Post Office here for 12 years, died Nov. 9, 1998, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Niagara Falls and served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1975. Lebans received the Bronze Star during his tour of duty in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972.

Lebans worked in maintenance for the U.S. Post Office after his military career, retiring in 1993.

A resident of Lewiston since 1986, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Down River Post 7487, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lower Niagara Lodge 584, and the Ransomville Masonic Lodge 551 Free & Accepted Masons.

His wife, the former Margaret Murdoch, died in 1992.

Survivors include a brother, Timothy .

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Hardison Funeral Homes, North Fourth and Ridge streets. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
