Two burglars surprised by a homeowner Tuesday may be linked to a string of burglaries in the Town of Evans, police said today.
Additional charges may be filed after evidence is checked in three other break-ins during the past two weeks, Evans Lt. Samuel DeJohn said after two 17-year-olds were arraigned on counts of second-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny.
Nicholas Janoski of 833 Sturgeon Point Road, Derby, and Alex D. Wachowski of 657 Beach Road, Angola, were released on $500 bail after their arraignment before Judge Timothy Cooper.
The two were arrested by Officer David Burke minutes after a call to 911 from the Beachwood Road homeowner, who had returned from the beach about 1 p.m. to find a computer, TV, VCR and other equipment stacked on his front lawn.
The homeowner yelled at a youth who came out of his front door, and again at the driver of a car that pulled into his driveway. Both fled, but descriptions of the youths and the car led to the quick arrest, the lieutenant said.
Some items were found in the car, he added. The burglary was similar to three other recent crimes in the Evans and Brant lake shore areas.
Both youths are Lake Shore Central School students, DeJohn said.
