"Absolut Russian," the second concert in the classics series by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, will feature violinist Hilary Hahn in the Stravinsky Violin Concerto. Guest Maestro Peter Bay will be also conduct Tchaikovsky's "Manfred" Symphony and Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain." Concerts are at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Kleinhans Music Hall, with pre-concert lectures one hour earlier.

The Amherst Saxophone Quartet will perform jazz standards and light jazz selections at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724 Delaware Ave.

Flutist Cheryl Gobbetti-Hoffman will present a faculty recital with pianist Claudia Hoca and vibraphonist Kirk Brundage at 8 p.m. Friday in Slee Concert Hall, University at Buffalo North Campus. Copland's Duo, Reinecke's "Undine" Sonata and works of Bartok, Debussy, Loeb and Erb will be performed.

The Houghton College Artist Series will begin with a performance by internationally known pianist Katsunori Ishii at 8 p.m. Saturday in Wesley Chapel, Houghton College.

A concert of classical Indian music, featuring Rais Kahn on sitar and vocalist Rasheeb Kahn, will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday in Slee Concert Hall, UB North Campus. This marks the first in a concert series of world music at the school.

The Metropolitan Woodwind Quintet, featuring flutist Linda Fusani, oboist Sei-ichi Matsui, clarinetist Andrea Flagler, hornist Allison Dings and bassoonist Paul Furlong, will perform on the First Sundays at Four series at 4 p.m. Sunday in Church of the Ascension, 16 Linwood Ave.

The Philharmonic Quartet, consisting of violinists Diana Sachs and Alan Ross, violist Donna Lorenzo and cellist Anitra Dreyfuss, will open the Parkside Chamber Music Series on Sunday with a program featuring the area premiere of the Divertimento for Oboe and Strings by the early 19th century Swedish composer Bernhard Crusell. Paul Schlossman will be the oboist. Also on the program are Haydn's Quartet Op. 77 No. 1 and Beethoven's Quartet Op. 59 No. 1. The concert is at Parkside Lutheran Church, corner of Depew and Linden avenues.

The Cassatt String Quartet will give an informal recital, followed by a question-and-answer period, at noon Monday in the Center for the Arts Atrium, UB North Campus.

The Buffalo Chamber Music Society will present the Muir String Quartet in concert at 8 p.m. next Tuesday in the Mary Seaton Room of Kleinhans Music Hall. The program will feature the premiere of String Quartet No. 4 by Lukas Foss. A pre-concert lecture by Foss will begin at 7:15.
