Bishop Henry J. Mansell joined parishioners of St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Monday evening to dedicate pre-K to second-grade classrooms in a convent converted into a annex for the nearby school.
The building, which once housed the Sisters of Mercy, was named the St. Dominic Savio Annex. Increased enrollment, especially in the lower grades, required additional classroom space, according to the pastor, Monsignor Leo F. McCarthy.
The student body has increased to more than 370, a 10 percent increase over last year's figure.
Earlier, Bishop Mansell blessed the parish's new 700-crypt mausoleum in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The mausoleum, named for a former pastor, the Rev. T. Bernard Kelly, and one completed nearly 20 years ago cost $1.5 million, according to parish trustees.
