MALAYSIAN PROTESTS CONTINUE TO GROW

Riot police waving batons today dispersed a few thousand protesters who shouted anti-government slogans and blocked a road.

Eyewitnesses saw several people pushed inside police buses during the fourth straight day of protests. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

A local human rights group, SUARAM, said 60 people were detained.

Opposition to Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's decision to fire and arrest Anwar Ibrahim, his former deputy and heir apparent, has sparked a series of protests in Malaysia.
