PAPER PLANT HIT BY FIRE

An overheated bearing triggered a fire Saturday that caused more than $50,000 damage to Norampac Industries, a paper products plant at 4001 Packard Road, fire officials said.

The fire started at 8:32 a.m., when the bearing in a rolling machine ignited paper dust and shreds and the fire spread into duct work, fire officials said. City firefighters brought the blaze under control by 9:16 a.m.
