TOWN SHOULD DISCARD TIRES WHERE MOSQUITOES BREED

Cheers to the writer who suggested removing the tires where researchers were testing the mosquito population. Discarded tires are the preferred breeding ground for the type of tree-hole dwelling mosquitoes that carry encephalitis.

When I lived in La Crosse, Wis., health workers were routinely sent out to gather and destroy the discarded tires where these deadly mosquitoes breed. Imagine my horror at seeing the photos in The News of abandoned warehouse yards filled with old tires, not to mention the researcher testing the water in the tire and then leaving the tire.
