TEEN PLEADS GUILTY IN SHOOTING

A Niagara Falls youth accused of shooting another youth who was riding a bicycle pleaded guilty Friday in Niagara County Court to a reduced charge of second-degree assault.

Judge Charles J. Hannigan scheduled sentencing for Oct. 30 for Willie M. McTyere, 16, of Ontario Avenue in Niagara Falls. McTyere, originally charged with first-degree assault, had been held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

McTyere was accused of injuring 19-year-old Algie M. Smith of 13th Street, Niagara Falls, by shooting him in the leg last May with a .25-caliber handgun. The shooting occurred in the 1500 block of 13th Street, Niagara Falls, while Smith was riding his bicycle there.

Judge Hannigan sentenced Junius L. Watkins, 51, of 20th Street, Niagara Falls, to five years probation and ordered him to undergo drug testing after he pleaded guilty to a charge of fifth-degree criminal possession of cocaine last January in Niagara Falls.
