Pietro Cercone of Lancaster, a retired steelworker, died Thursday (Sept. 24, 1998) in the Erie County Medical Center after a long illness. He was 75 years old.
Born in Bacentro, Italy, where he received his education, he came to the United States in 1957 and settled in Buffalo in 1960.
Cercone worked at Mosaic & Tile on Delavan Avenue and at Shenango, Inc. as a steelworker for 20 years until the plant closed in 1979.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Flavia DeChellis of Lancaster; two sons, Concezio of Clarence and Ermo of Cheektowaga; five grandchildren; two brothers, Paul of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Vincent of West Seneca; two sisters, Rita Battaglini of London, Ont., and Lydia Lalama of Willimsville.
Prayers will be said in the Lancaster-Depew Chapel of Amigone Funeral Home, Inc., 6050 Transit Road, Lancaster at 8:15 a.m. Monday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5337 Genesee St., Bowmansville. Burial will be in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Lancaster.
