GUILTY PLEA IN ATTACK ON OFFICER

A Niagara Falls man who allegedly slashed an off-duty Buffalo police officer with a beer bottle in a May 31 barroom attack pleaded guilty Friday in Niagara County Court to second-degree assault.

Judge Charles J. Hannigan scheduled sentencing for Nov. 6 for Douglas L. Hamilton, 20, of Fourth Street, Niagara Falls.

Hamilton is accused of striking Officer Roger V. Young in the face, causing cuts that required 56 stitches at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Hamilton is free on $1,000 bail.

Young told investigators he had been socializing with a woman at the bar when Hamilton slammed the beer bottle into his head. The officer said Hamilton later fired two shots at him from a handgun, and the officer fired one shot in return.
