Islanders game canceled

MINEOLA, L.I. -- A faceoff between the New York Islanders and Nassau County officials ended Friday with a slap shot to fans when the team canceled its first exhibition game over allegations its home arena is unsafe.

The game against New Jersey was canceled when the sides were unable to agree about allowing an engineering firm hired by the NHL conduct a safety inspection of 26-year-old Nassau Coliseum.
