Sixty-one motorists were charged with speeding and 24 with seat belt violations Thursday during a speeding blitz conducted near five area schools, Police Traffic Capt. Gordon Warme said.
Two people were charged with going 41 miles per hour in a 20 mph-school zone.
Warme said the blitzes were conducted from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Military Road by LaSalle Senior High School, Buffalo Avenue near the LaSalle Middle School, Military Road at Prince of Peace School, 11th Street by Harry F. Abate Elementary School and Lewiston Road by Maple Avenue School.
"We ran the blitz to remind people that kids are back in school and that they should drive carefully so they (the kids) don't get hurt," Warme said.
