Charles "Junior" Ryan, a retired Bethlehem Steel employee, died Sunday (Sept. 20, 1998) at his home in Buffalo following a lengthy illness. He was 73.
Ryan was educated in the Buffalo schools before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He was discharged in 1946. He worked at Bethlehem Steel for more than 30 years before retiring in 1983.
He was an avid bridge player and golfer. Ryan was a member of AMVETS Post 5 and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Virginia; two sons, Charles R. of Bowie, Md., and Jeffrey W. of Richmond, Va.; and a brother, Leroy.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Bethel AME Church, 1525 Michigan Ave. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
