The late Arlene Joan Rochwarger will be paid special tribute today at a reception in honor of her book, "The Ambassador's Wife," published by her husband, Leonard Rochwarger.
The Buffalo business executive was U.S. ambassador to Fiji from 1987 to 1989, and Mrs. Rochwarger, in addition to her many duties as an ambassador's wife, kept a running journal of that exotic and exciting time.
"The interesting part," said Rochwarger, "is that my appointment took an executive's wife out of her known society, the clubs and all that good stuff, and put her not just into a diplomatic arena but a Third World country with revolutions. The book is that story, through her eyes."
Mrs. Rochwarger, a longtime community leader, died in 1996 at 67.
Her book, subtitled "A Life Story Never Dreamed Of," will debut during a 5 p.m. reception and book signing today in the Atrium of Roswell Park Cancer Institute at Elm and Carlton streets.
A donation of $100 is being requested at today's presentation of the book -- with all proceeds going to patient care and research at Roswell Park. The book -- also available at the Roswell Park gift shop for $24.95 -- is expected in local book stores soon.
All net proceeds will go to the Arlene Joan Rochwarger Charitable Foundation.
