The parents of a malnourished 20-month-old boy were so distraught at losing custody of the child -- who they apparently believe is endowed with special religious significance -- they allegedly snatched him from a hospital and fled.
A security camera showed Christopher Fink with his son, David, in his arms, dashing out of Primary Children's Medical Center on Saturday.
David had been placed in state custody after relatives brought him to the hospital Monday suffering from life-threatening malnutrition and dehydration. He apparently had been fed nothing but lettuce and watermelon.
Ed Clark, medical director at the hospital, said the child's growth and development was "dramatically behind for his age." The FBI said the child weighed just 16 pounds.
Christopher Fink and his wife, Kyndra, are believed to be associated with the True and Living Church of Jesus Christ of Saints of the Last Days, a 350-member polygamous group founded in 1994, the FBI said.
