FIREFIGHTER INJURED IN FALL OFF ROOF AT 2-ALARM BLAZE

Buffalo firefighters battled a two-alarm fire late Tuesday at a Genesee Street building that was said to be vacant. A firefighter was injured at the scene when he reportedly fell off a roof. The victim's name and status were unavailable.

The first alarm was sounded at 10:14 p.m. after someone reported seeing flames in a 2 1/2 -story brick building that was believed to be 434 Genesee St. The second alarm followed approximately 10 minutes later.

The structure was narrow and long, extending back on the property in three successively smaller sections. Flames licked out through boarded-up windows on the second floor and through the roof of the front section, and also were visible on the second floor of the middle section.

Firefighters fought the blaze from the outside, utilizing ladder trucks and ground crews.
