SLOAN GETS $3,750 GRANT FOR RECREATION FACILITIES

The Sloan Village Board's ongoing program to upgrade its recreation facilities received a financial boost last week with a $3,750 grant from the county.

Trustee Leonard Szymanski, who serves as the village's chairman of parks and recreation, said the grant will be used to purchase sporting equipment, tables and videotapes for the village's recreation program. A part of the grant will also be spent on upgrading senior citizen programs in Sloan.

During the past two years, the board has allocated more than $25,000 on upgrades at Wrazen Park on the village's south side and has upgraded basketball and tennis courts at the Sloan Gates Street Park.

Szymanski and Mrs. Theo Pokorski, Sloan senior citizen director, received the grant from County Legislator Gregory B. Olma during a ceremony in the Sloan Municipal Building.
