WORKERS HURT IN FALL AFTER CATWALK BREAKS

A catwalk broke during construction of an arena next to the Louisiana Superdome Saturday, dumping three men 25 feet onto concrete steps.

One man was in critical condition with leg injuries, another suffered head injuries, and a third broke an ankle. A fourth man was hurt but refused treatment, officials said.

The workers were bolting the catwalk to the roof of the New Orleans Arena when the catwalk broke in two and fell, said Roy Mouledous of contractor Manhattan Gibbs Joint Venture.

The 20,000-seat arena is scheduled to open in late 1999.
