Norma I. Vallone, a manager at the old W.T. Grant Co. store in Hamburg before it closed in 1975, died Saturday (Sept. 19, 1998) in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. She was 85.
A native of Buffalo, she moved at an early age to Gowanda, where she graduated from high school. She worked at the former Larkin Building and Hotel Statler as a teletype operator for Postal Telegraph Corp. before going to the Grant store.
An active member of Hamburg Methodist Church, she helped establish the church's membership newsletter.
She was a member of Beulah Chapter 176, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member and past president of Forsythia Court, Order of the Amaranth.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Joseph M., and two sons, Charles B. and William R.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hamburg United Methodist Church, 116 Union St. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Armor.[cllsn]
