Roy Y. Taylor, 86, of Bayview Station, a retired district engineer for New York State Electric & Gas Corp. who was active in community and fraternal organizations, died Friday (Aug. 28, 1998) in Lockport Memorial Hospital.
A native of Ayr, Scotland, he worked at the company for 37 years before he retired in 1974.
Taylor had served on the Newfane Central Board of Education and was a charter member of the Newfane PTA. He served on the town's first Zoning Board and was a member of Newfane Grange No. 1159.
He was a member of Newfane United Methodist Church.
Taylor also was a 60-year member and a past master of Newfane Lodge 947, F&AM, and a 50-year member of Newfane Chapter 743, Order of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of Ismailia Shrine Temple and a master of Blazing Star of East Aurora.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Doris Heitman Taylor; two sons, Roy of Scottsville and Craig of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Winnifred of Sarasota and Mary Hise of Bradenton, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Newfane United Methodist Church, 2699 Main St. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, East Aurora.
