MEMBERS OF AMERICORPS WORK TO HELP COMMUNITY

The official motto of AmeriCorps is "Getting Things Done," a creed the organization has fully lived up to. AmeriCorps can best be described as a domestic Peace Corps. Those who join receive a modest living allowance and a handsome educational stipend received after the completion of the program. But the true rewards are inherent in the tasks the members perform.

Just in the last 10 months as part of the West Seneca AmeriCorps, I have had the opportunity to tutor second-graders, improving their reading and math skills. Along with other members of AmeriCorps, we participated in the King Urban Life Center after-school program, assisting students with homework problems. We have also worked together to clean and restore parts of Martin Luther King and LaSalle parks.

These are just a few of the many projects AmeriCorps has accomplished. Every day has been a new adventure. Ultimately, every job has helped the community.
