The touring Canisius College men's basketball team completed its Italian trip with a 97-83 victory over Tiber-Roma. Coach Mike MacDonald's team finished 3-3 on the trip and the team is scheduled to arrive home tonight.
The Griffs led Tiber, 50-42, at halftime with the help of 13 points by center Darren Fenn. Tiber got within three in the third quarter, which ended 69-63.
The game was played NBA-style with four 12-minute quarters. Canisius scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter and built a lead that reached as many as 22.
Jamie Cammaert (26 points), Keith Lambkin (19), Fenn (13), Kevin Worley (13) and redshirt freshman Dorian McClure (12) led the Griffs.
"The best part of the week was Dale Sawyers played very well. He was probably our most consistent player. It was nice to see him start to evolve," said MacDonald. "We got some experience for young guys like Clive Bentick, Andy Bush and Dorian McClure. Fenn had a chance to grow up and our three seniors (Cammaert, Lambkin and Worley) had a chance to be leaders."
