Ruth Matteson LaSpisa, 80, of Williamsville, who sang with the Amherst Sweet Adelines and the Cheektowaga Community Chorus, died Friday (Aug. 28, 1998) in Sisters Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Emporium, Pa. She joined the Sweet Adelines in 1971 and assisted the music director from 1977 to 1979. She directed the group's annual show at Williamsville South High School in 1979.
In 1983, she started singing with the Cheektowaga Community Chorus and continued until recently. She was a volunteer usher at Shea's Performing Arts Center and was active in the St. Gregory Senior Citizens Club in the 1980s and in the Schiller Park Senior Citizens.
Mrs. LaSpisa enjoyed fishing in the Georgian Bay area of Ontario and playing bridge.
Her husband, Joseph R., died in 1990. They were married in 1940.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald J. of Norman, Okla., and Richard J. of Clarence; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Prayers will be said at 9 a.m. Monday in Dietrich Funeral Home, 2480 Kensington Ave., Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 100 St. Gregory Court, Amherst. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.[hdkns]
