I cannot think of anything more foolish than the Niagara County SPCA spending $150,000 and acres of land on dead animals. I am referring to the pet cemetery project under way.
The SPCA knows better than anyone how many suffering, neglected animals there are. The living ones desperately need that money. The SPCA should be concentrating on making the lives of the animals at their facility better, not wasting that money on dead ones.
The Niagara County SPCA owns well over 100 acres of land and reportedly has $350,000. Why not put up fencing so the dogs and cats could leave their depressing cages?
Never would I have considered spending hundreds of dollars on a headstone for my dog, which died three years ago, in a beautiful cemetery -- not when I knew many needy dogs were out there. I'm sure the dogs I've since adopted appreciate the huge fenced-in yard we made for them, where they can run and play whenever they want, more than any headstone I could buy for them when they are dead.
