MAN LYING IN ROAD KILLED BY CAR

A 76-year-old man who was lying in a lane of Route 98 was struck and killed early Saturday morning by a car, which then veered off the road and struck a mailbox and telephone pole, Olean state police said.

Andrew F. Razmus of 11740 Route 98 was pronounced dead in Bertrand Chaffee Hospital,Springville, after the 6:10 a.m. accident on Route 98, two-tenths of a mile north of Green Road.

The driver, Wendy L. Kish, 30, of Ballard Road, Fillmore, suffered minor neck pain and was released after treatment in Bertrand Chaffee. Troopers said her car was traveling north on Route 98 when she was unable to avoid hitting a man lying in the road.

State police are continuing to investigate and said they did not know why Razmus was in the road or if he had been ill. No charges have been filed.
