INMATES GET VIDEO ORIENTATION

It seems there's an educational video for everything these days -- even for new inmates at the county jail.

Prepared by Niagara County Sheriff's Deputy Nick Eberhard, who also produces the department's weekly "Behind the Star" cable television series, the 10-minute film is shown to all incoming inmates.

It's about jailhouse do's and dont's. No, not shower room etiquette or cafeteria decorum, but rules and regulations -- prison protocol, if you will.

"Policies and procedures, rules and regulations vastly changed when they opened the new jail," Eberhard said of the recent $27 million expansion project. Expected behavior and inmate rights are outlined in the video, which is hosted by Channel 7 news personality Keith Radford, Eberhard said.

"We also did a video on dropoff and pickup procedures," which is shown at all Western New York and southern Ontario police agencies, Eberhard said.

"It's for personnel training" providing orientation for arresting agencies.

"We saved the county a lot of money producing the videos through Lockport Community Television," Eberhard said.
