Assemblyman Dick Smith, R-Hamburg, announced Friday that he has secured $80,000 in state aid for Mercy Flight, the Woodlawn-based emergency medical transport service.
"Since its inception in 1981, Mercy Flight has helped nearly 10,000 patients get to the best hospitals," Smith said. "This valuable service has undoubtedly saved many lives."
Mercy Flight uses two helicopters to transport patients in eight counties. Smith said the service recovers only about half of its annual operating funds from patients and insurers, making state aid necessary.
