OFFICIALS ASSESS TEXAS FLOOD DAMAGE

Federal emergency officials Friday began assessing the extent of flood damage in this border town as cleanup crews and search teams worked to remove debris and find those still unaccounted for.

Authorities released the names of about 170 people who remain unaccounted for after storms spawned by Tropical Storm Charley sent floodwaters roaring through town.

Nine people are known to have been here when the floods hit, Lt. Judy Altom of the Texas Department of Public Safety said. The others could have been out of town or in Mexico.

Seven people have been confirmed dead in Del Rio, and five more were killed across the border. Five people also have died in the Texas hill country.
