An Irving-area teen-ager drove a van into the side of a house Friday while trying to drive away in the stolen vehicle, Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies said.
Deputies spotted the teen searching through parked cars on Main Road in the Town of Hanover shortly before 2:30 a.m. The 14-year-old reportedly started up a van and tried to drive off, but he backed into a tree, struck a deck and went through a yard, running over a number of small items before the van hit the outside bedroom wall of a house.
The homeowners were asleep in the bedroom but were not injured.
The boy was knocked unconscious. He was treated in Lake Shore Hospital and is charged with grand larceny, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief. His name was not released because of his age.
