Thousands of unionized garment workers rallied Friday in Chinatown, protesting low wages and poor working conditions at sweatshops.

Members of the Union of Needletrades, Industrial & Textile Employees used their lunch breaks Friday to rally against illegal garment shops notorious for 12-hour days, seven-day work weeks, substandard pay and failing to pay overtime.

The group of more than 3,500 consisted largely of immigrant women.
