Five people were transported to area hospitals, two by emergency helicopter, after a violent three-car collision in Elma just before noon Friday.

According to Erie County sheriff deputies, John McDonough, 65, of Canterbury Lane, East Aurora, failed to stop for a traffic signal at Bowen Road and Clinton Street at about 11:25 a.m. and struck a van operated by Michael Lynch, 27, of Fawn Trail, West Seneca.

The car then rolled over the top of an oncoming station wagon that was traveling on Clinton Street. The station wagon was operated by Kathleen Flynn, 45, of Campbell Boulevard, Town of Tonawanda.

Ms. Flynn was taken to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment. She was in fair condition Friday evening. Maggie Foit, 16, a passenger in the station wagon, was taken to Children's Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition with a head injury. Danny Foit, 13, and Molly Foit, 15, were also taken to Children's and listed in good condition.

Deputies said none of the occupants of the Flynn vehicle were wearing seat belts. Police are continuing an investigation into the crash.
