Dorothy Marie Selk, who was a teacher before moving to Western New York in the 1950s, died Friday (Aug. 28, 1998) in Millard Fillmore Hospital. She was 74.
The former Dorothy Thelen was born and grew up on a family farm with her six brothers and sisters in Shelby, Neb. She went to schools there and attended the University of Nebraska.
She married Willis Selk in 1951, and they moved to the Buffalo area.
Mrs. Selk was a longtime resident of Lancaster and a longtime parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Her pastimes included dancing, bowling and sewing.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Chris and Terry, and four daughters, Susan Sturm, Lori Joyce, Amy Hayes, and Melissa Sevchik, all of the Lancaster area; three sisters, Mary Rose Armatosg, Loyoal Terry and Edith Thelen, all of Shelby, Neb., and 12 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 1 St. Mary's Hill, Lancaster.
