A Cattaraugus County teen escaped serious injury Thursday after he lost control of the car he was driving and struck an embankment, sheriff's deputies said Friday.
The vehicle operated by Terry L. Lute Jr., 18, of Delevan, went off County Road 36 in the Town of Freedom at about 9:15 p.m., striking the earthen embankment before it overturned several times and returned to the roadway, deputies reported.
Lute suffered minor cuts to his hands in the crash and left the scene on foot, they said. He was located at about 4 p.m. Friday in the Town of Machias after a lengthy search by the sheriff's K-9 unit and Erie County Sheriff's Department helicopter squad.
Lute faces charges of failure to keep right, a lane violation, leaving the scene of an accident and improper use of dealer plates. He will appear in Freedom Town Court at a future date.
