SENTENCING SET FOR SLOAN MAN

Paul Przystal pleaded guilty Thursday to fatally shaking 17-month old Paul B. Vogel while watching the West Seneca boy and his own two sons in his Sloan home last year.

Facing the scheduled start of jury selection Monday in a second-degree murder trial, Przystal, 29, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter before Erie County Judge John V. Rogowski.

He admitted to the judge that he had "shaken" the boy, but didn't elaborate on the March 10, 1997, incident.

Prosecutors told the judge they agreed to the pretrial plea because of the mandatory prison term Przystal faces and because it spares Paul and Robin Vogel the trauma of attending the trial.

Rogowski set sentencing for Nov. 24. Przystal faces at least three to six years and as long as 12 1/2 to 25 years.
