OPENING STATE FAIR IS DREAM COME TRUE

Megan O'Hara already has fulfilled every budding athlete's dream by getting her face on a box of Wheaties cereal. Helping Gov. Pataki open this year's State Fair seemed no less thrilling.

"This is exciting. I like it," Ms. O'Hara, who was born with Down syndrome, said Thursday as she joined with the governor in officially opening the annual exposition for its 12-day run.

Ms. O'Hara, of Syracuse, has won 55 medals in swimming, bowling, softball, soccer, basketball and cross-country skiing over 14 years of competition in Special Olympics at the state and national levels.

The fair will run through Labor Day.

On Tuesday, "Good Morning America" weatherman Spencer Christian will do live reports from the fair.
