LOCKPORT BYPASS TO HONOR ASTRONAUT

The Lockport Bypass will be dedicated in honor of astronaut William G. Gregory at noon Sunday.

The highway from Saunders Settlement Road to Robinson Road is part of Route 93. It will be named the William Gregory Bypass in the ceremony to be held at the Robinson Road intersection.

Gregory, 41, was born in Lockport and graduated from Lockport High School in 1975. After graduating from the Air Force Academy in 1979, Gregory earned two master's degrees and served as a fighter pilot and test pilot before being selected for the astronaut
program in 1990.

He piloted the space shuttle Endeavour on a 16-day mission in March 1995, with a seven-member crew. He is now the spacecraft operations branch chief of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Houston.
