Letitia "Pat" Hakes, a former dental assistant, died Tuesday (Aug. 25, 1998) in Lockport Memorial Hospital after an illness of six years.
Mrs. Hakes, 87, was a resident of Mount View Health Facility. She had formerly been a resident of Niagara Falls and Lewiston.
She was born Letitia Gawley in Malone, Ont. She moved to Niagara Falls in 1925 and graduated from Trott Vocational School of Practical Nursing.
Mrs. Hakes was a licensed practical nurse and had worked for many years as a dental assistant in Niagara Falls.
She was past matron of Flagler Chapter 355, Order of the Eastern Star, in Niagara Falls. She also was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Niagara Falls.
Her first husband, Joseph D. Birmingham, died in 1964, and her second husband, Carl E. Hakes, died in 1976.
She is survived by a son, David P. Birmingham of Lewiston; a daughter, Joann Ryan of Albany; two sisters, Marilyn Gerow of Toronto and Frieda Dofolof Peterboro, Ont.; and six grandchildren.
Services were held today in Otto Redanz Funeral Home, Michigan Avenue at Tenth Street. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
