SUSPECT ARRESTED IN RASH OF VENDING-MACHINE THEFTS

Police apparently solved the recent rash of thefts from vending machines at downtown hotels with the arrest Wednesday of a North Carolina man, Detective Lt. Frank Tedesco said.

Anthony L. Jones, 27, of Gastonia, N.C., was charged with petit larceny, criminal mischief and criminal possession of burglary tools. He was arrested Wednesday at a motel in the Town of Tonawanda by Tedesco and Detective John Olander.

Since Aug. 6, soda, candy and other vending machines were broken into at five hotels: Howard Johnson's and the Quality Inn on Main Street, the Holiday Inn and the Day's Inn on Rainbow Boulevard and the Falls Side Resort on Buffalo Avenue, Tedesco said.
