STUTZMAN TO HEAD BATAVIA SCHOOLS

Richard G. Stutzman Jr. has been appointed superintendent of the Batavia City School District effective immediately.

Stutzman, the district's former business administrator, was named to a three-year contract to succeed David J. VanScoy, who retired in June. Stutzman had been serving as interim superintendent while the board prepared to seek Van Scoy's successor.

A search firm had been hired and had conducted interviews with local school personnel.

Alice Ann Benedict, board president, said Stutzman was the unanimous choice of the seven-member board.

"We decided he's the best man for the job. He knows the district, making the transition easier and a lot better for our schools," she added. The starting salary is $98,000.
