Underage drinking will be the subject of a meeting in September for bar owners and servers in the village.

It is being organized by the Fredonia Police Department, the Fredonia State College Public Safety Department and the State Liquor Authority. A date will be set later.

Police Chief Bradley Meyers said underage drinking is a problem in Fredonia because it is a college town.

He was a student at the college and spent two years as a patrolman on the Fredonia force before leaving for the Jamestown Police Department. He returned to Fredonia in June as the chief.

Bradley cautioned that house parties where admission is charged and drinking occurs are illegal. A license is needed to sell alcohol, under the Alcoholic Beverage Control law.
