Marie T. Mentecki, 54, of Williamsville, a former departmental director at Buffalo General Hospital, died Tuesday (Aug. 25, 1998) in her home after a brief illness.
Born Marie Barone in Buffalo, she attended Mount St. Joseph Academy and Erie Community College. She received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University at Buffalo.
She was technical director of cardiopulmonary services at Buffalo General Hospital from 1973 until last December. In January, she joined American Bio-Systems as a clinical field specialist.
She was a member of the National Board of Respiratory Therapy, the board of directors of the Western New York Chapter of Respiratory Therapy, the Western New York Respiratory Managers Association, the ECC Respiratory Care Advisory Board, the American Thoracic Society and the American Lung Association Education Committee.
She also was active in Professional Networking Associates and Women Interested in Cystic Health.
She received the Distinguished Alumni Award from ECC in 1992 and the AWARE Recognition Award in 1993.
Surviving are her husband, David; a son, Lawrence Yonish of San Antonio; two daughters, Mary Jo Williams of Amherst and Andrea of Williamsville; her mother, Agnes Barone; two brothers, Russell Barone of Grand Island and Ralph Barone of Kenmore; four sisters, Josephine Luff of Grand Island, Gloria Lundin of Dallas, Judith Lundin of Amherst and Jeanne Hallock of Williamsville; and two granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John Maron Church, 2040 Wehrle Drive, Amherst.
