Amherst police arrested a 41-year-old Buffalo man Wednesday on a charge of public lewdness after he allegedly exposed himself to a town resident in the parking lot of a Maple Road business, Assistant Chief Frank Olesko said.

Hugh P. Hanley of 131 Carmel Road was charged with a misdemeanor count of public lewdness at 12:35 p.m. after a 39-year-old town resident reported to police that Hanley exposed himself to her in the parking lot at 1820 Maple Road.

Police said that after the woman entered the business to call police, Hanley got out of his car, a 1993 blue Ford Probe, and waited for her outside the business.

When the woman did not exit the business, police said, Hanley entered the building to follow her and was arrested by police officers while inside.
