IDA LOAN SOUGHT TO PURCHASE CHAMPION PLANT

Businessman Sam Gullo wants a $300,000 loan from the Wyoming County Industrial Development Agency to help him complete his purchase of the Champion Products plant in Perry.

Gullo's purchase of the plant would allow him to lease it back to Champion and keep 125 distribution and custom printing jobs there.

Earlier this year, Champion moved 345 jobs at the Perry plant to other facilities in the South.

Under the proposal, the Wyoming County IDA would loan Gullo $300,000 of the total $850,000 purchase price.

A public hearing on the proposed loan is set for 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at Perry Town Hall, 22 S. Main St.

Commercial parkway opens on East Side

A $7 million commercial parkway that links American Axle with the former General Motors Harrison plant on the East Side has been completed.

Mayor Masiello and other officials participated in ribbon-cutting ceremonies Tuesday at the William L. Gaiter Parkway, a two-mile corridor that makes 40 acres of abandoned rail land viable for new use.

The highway connects East Delevan and Kensington Avenues, reducing truck traffic on 11 residential streets.

The project was launched last year and was financed by city, state and federal dollars.

Alan H. DeLisle, president of the Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation, said future plans call for construction of an industrial park and small business incubator near the parkway.

The projects are being planned in cooperation with the Erie County Industrial Development Agency and the federal government.
