FEDERAL GRANTS TO ASSIST THREE POLICE DEPARTMENTS

Lackawanna, the City of Tonawanda and Jamestown will be able to keep their federally funded police officers on the streets thanks to a new grantannounced Wednesday.

Lackawanna received a $120,000 award from the Justice Department's Community Oriented Policing Services Small Communities Grant Program.

Rep. Jack Quinn, R-Hamburg, said the grant provides an additional year's funding for the eight Lackawanna police officers hired with federal funds three years ago.

The City of Tonawanda received $15,000 to retain one officer, according to Rep. John J. LaFalce, D-Town of Tonawanda, while Jamestown got $30,000 to retain two officers.
