Nineteen of the 36 candidates running for statewide office this November have signed a League of Women Voters' pledge to conduct fair, issues-oriented campaigns, the group said Wednesday.
Candidates signing the pledge also agreed to participate in public debate about their views and qualifications.
State Attorney General Dennis C. Vacco was the only Republican candidate to sign the pledge.
Democrats not signing the pledge included New York City Council Speaker Peter Vallone and Lt. Gov. Ross, who are both running for governor, and former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro, who is running for the U.S. Senate.
